Hamilton man Daniel McLean charged with attempted murder

The Hamilton Police Service Division One Detectives has arrested and charged a Hamilton man with Attempt Murder after investigating a stabbing incident that happened on Monday night.

On Monday, May 14th, 2012, shortly after 10:00 p.m., a 42 yr. old Hamilton man was getting into a cab that had arrived at a licensed establishment located on Sanford Ave. N. at Cannon St. E. 

As the man entered into the left rear passenger seat of the cab, it is alleged that the accused, Daniel Francis MCLEAN, while armed with a knife, approached the left rear side of the cab, reached in through the window of the left rear passenger door and struck the victim in the chest. The victim told the cab driver to leave and take him to the hospital.  The victim underwent emergency surgery as his injuries were considered life-threatening.  

On Tuesday, May 15th, 2012, Division One Detectives spoke with the victim who confirmed the identity of the accused, a man he has known for several years. This information confirmed that the stabbing was not a random incident.  Later on the same day, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Investigators returned to the area of the stabbing and located the accused as he was leaving an apartment in a building on Sanford Ave. N. The accused was arrested without incident and cooperated with police. 

Daniel McLean was transported to the police station where he was held for a bail hearing scheduled for today.

The Hamilton Police Service Division One Detectives continue to investigate.
