Student protesters in Montreal have managed to create hurdles for those who want to study and attend classes. The masses stormed into the University of Quebec in Montreal wearing masks and created havoc, forcing the campus to shutdown.
Reportedly, over hundred demonstrators entered the school’s downtown campus Wednesday morning around 9:30 a.m. ET when law students with a court injunction were trying to return to their class. These aggressive protesters had the list of scheduled classes and thus they went on clearing each of them.
The mass was carrying drums and whistles to create noise and gain attention. They forcefully entered the main UQAM building while screaming out next targets like “Pavilion M!” Since the mass succeeded in creating havoc, the teaching staff panicked and fled out of the campus.
Protesters still call their demonstrations peaceful and productive. One of the protesters, alias Eric B., said: “Me myself, I would have never acted on violence. I would have never gone upstairs if people were there to break stuff. We have to stop just always demonizing people, always saying the reds are terrorists and shit like that. That’s totally BS.”
These protests are costing millions of dollars to the provincial government. Montreal is completely vandalized. Michel Leblanc, president and CEO of the Montreal Chamber of Commerce, says the entire city is all the time worrying about traffic jams and closed streets.
Banning masked protests was Montreal’s mayor, Gerald Tremblay, desperate attempt to mellow down the ongoing student protests against the hike in tuition fee. These demonstrations have resulted in costing the city millions in lost productivity, damage of daily vandalism, breaking public property and causing several injuries. In addition, law enforcement costs have also risen, with the Quebec provincial police overtime bill alone estimated at $1.5 million.
