Yesterday morning, a woman reported that she had received a telephone call from a male purporting to be from a computer company advising her that her warranty was due to expire.  The woman followed the directions given to her by the man as she logged onto a website and entered a code given to her.  As the man gained full control of her computer, he asked the woman for a credit card number so he could initiate the $90 service fee.  The woman advised she did not a credit card and the man immediately hung up the telephone.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service would like to remind everyone that you should never give out personal or financial information to strangers, especially when you did not initiate the call.  Should you receive this type of telephone call, attempt to gather as much information from the person as possible.  If you have caller ID, record their phone number and provide all information to police.
