A single-engine plane crashed into a fence of Rockcliffe Airport in a failed attempt to takeoff on Friday morning. Officials have stated that the accident took place sometime around 10:30 a.m. The plane engaged with the fence at the east end of the runway. No major fire started due to the incident, but the Mooney M20 plan was severely smashed up from its wings. Especially the left wing’s top was trimmed off as the pilot managed to jump out in time without any injuries.

Ottawa firefighter’s workers successfully contained a negligibly small fuel spill. According to the registration data of the aircraft show, it was discovered that plane was established in 1964 and was owned by a Susan Begg of Nepean. Furthermore, it was also brought to light by the flight tracking program, Flightaware, that the most recent flight plan of the aircraft was a 700 kilometer trip from Pelee Island to Rockcliffe Airport on Sept. 16.

Official statement of Ottawa Fire Services spokesperson, Marc Messier, mentioned that “plane sustained major wing damage after crashing into a fence around 10:20 a.m., trying to take off and skipping along the runway.” It was also stated that since someone managed to cut off the supply of fuel timely, the damage was kept to a minimum. He also stated that now some of the fence is being cut off, for moving the plane from the site.

Paramedics are inspecting the lone female pilot at the moment, but her condition is said to be satisfactory.
