Amanda ToddThe B.C. Coroners Service representative, Coroner Barb McLintock, have officially announced that they are investigating into the Port Coquitlam 15-year-old little Amanda Todd’s suicide, after posting a YouTube video asserting she was being bullied. However, it was clearly affirmed in the statement that this investigation will “be long and complex — and the public should not expect instant answers.”

McLintock notified the public that no answers regarding the death of the distressed teen are going to come any soon, and implied that for the sake of making useful suggestions and avoid such incidents in the future, variety of aspects from school and mental health support, to cyber and social media bullying will be considered in complete depth.

McLintock asserted that investigating and evaluating all these aspects will take considerable time as the Coroners Service will attempt to provide reasonable and realistic suggestions for preventing anything of this nature in future. McLintock mentioned that after the coroner’s report is written, the case will be forwarded to child-death review, and then possible referred to a third-level of review by a multidisciplinary team of experts.

A criminologist at the Simon Fraser University, named Brenda Morrison, implied that a solution of bullying is a very necessary need in the coming challenging days of our community. People need to step up and fight for it, she said. Morrison pointed out that nobody has stepped forward Todd when she was being bullied, and this shows that she needed a community to care for her.

  1. It is unfortunate that these events occur. Parents have to take action. In my family we have installed sassreport free software that allows us to see our children’s activity on social networks. Now we can detect if you are experiencing cyberbullying.
