The police made an announcement on Wednesday to declare the results of a massive crackdown on child pornographers. A young boy’s was freed in the incident, along with 16 suspects convicted with child-porn-related charges in result of a multi-force police investigation across the Prairies, Nunavut and the Northwest Territories.

The RCMP’s Canadian Police Centre for Missing and Exploited Children unraveled the results of Operation Snapshot at RCMP headquarters in Regina. Sgt. Mike Lokken from the Alberta’s Integrated Child Exploitation unit, talked about the Edmonton suspect saying “he doesn’t work with children.” A total of 21 suspects were arrested including 10 in Saskatchewan, five in Alberta and two in Manitoba and 16 others.

Lokken stated that the suspect arrested from Edmonton is scheduled to appear in court sometime around mid-November. He informed that the police is keeping information about the suspects private as “these files tend to have a domino effect” so “If we were to publicly say their names at this point, it might tip off other people that we’re looking at down the road.”

A roommate of a family member of the 14-years-old boy was also arrested and pleaded guilty. RCMP claims that will be now serving a sentence for the crime. He stated that “It is important to remember that for each high-risk offender we identify, dozens of potential future victims are prevented and we send a strong message to individuals still at large today.”

RCMP Insp. Pierre Leduc, of the Canadian Police Centre for Missing and Exploited Children, mentioned that “the success of this operation demonstrates the value policing partnership at the national and international level in keeping our children safe and combating these serious crimes. Internet-facilitated child sexual abuse is a borderless crime that requires partners to work together to identify offenders and leads to arrests and charges.”
