The chances of a complete upcoming NHL season are getting thinner and thinner by the time. There is only one day left until the deadline administered by the league for preserving an 82-game schedule expires and both the parties have not yet even consented on how and when to arrange a bargaining session.

An invite was sent by the NHL Players’ Association to the NHL administration for resuming talks “without preconditions” on Wednesday, but it was soon rejected by the NHL without any wastage of time. This invite was conveyed on Tuesday night during a conference call with the union’s executive board. An NHLPA spokesman tagged this invitation as an attempt to “bridge the gap.”

The league did not show any considerable interest in conducting a bargaining session, in case both the parties were not able change their stance and attempt to move from the verdict. NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Dally stated that “they have indicated a willingness to meet, but they also told us they had very little interest in the proposal we tabled last Tuesday.” Daly also mentioned that “(they) also said they weren’t making a new proposal. What would we be meeting about?”

The negotiations between both the parties have jammed completely without any visible solution while the deadline of Thursday, to save a full 82-game schedule, comes nearer. Last week, Commissioner Gary Bettman declared that dense 82-game schedule might be relaxed in case a weeklong training camp opened Friday and the puck dropped on Nov. 2.
