The collective bargaining sessions of NHL and NHPLA have reinitiated after a severe deadlock between both the parties, but now the meetings are going to be held underground and secretive from the media. The exact location of the upcoming meeting on Tuesday afternoon is not disclosed to media so the bargaining session is private.

This return of hope of a solution has come a day after the Deputy Commissioner of NHL, Bill Daly, and Special Counsel of NHLPA, Steve Fehr, met informally at a meeting in an undisclosed city. The negotiations had previously failed drastically but now both sides are making their last bid of progress and keeping the media spotlight away from them while they do it.

When Daly was asked for his comments on the upcoming meeting on Monday, he told The Canadian Press that he has promised to be silent until the meetings were over. It is still a little vague as to whether he or NHL Commissioner, Gary Bettman, will inform media with an update following Tuesday’s session. On the other hand the NHLPA has told the press that their Executive Director, Donald Fehr, or his brother, Steve, will inform the media once the meeting is over.

There are numerous issues that need a compromise from both the parties, however, the major issue of them all is to build a system which will allow all existing contracts to be honored in full, even after the players’ overall share in revenue is reduced to 50 per cent from its current position of 57 per cent.

The NHL lockout is into its 52nd day and has already prompted the league to cancel 327 regular-season games, including the Jan. 1 Winter Classic at Michigan Stadium.
