The City of Calgary has raised the parking ban it placed on the snow routes as the crews successfully complete clearing the snow early on Monday morning. The head of city’s roads department, Peter Jacoby, declared that “our priority ones and twos are down to bare pavement, they are wet.” He explained that “we’ve got water flowing in some of the gutters because the temperature has now risen enough.”
At the time that snow route parking ban was imposed, a total of 355 tickets were distributed among for parking offences since its implementation from Sunday at 1 p.m. MT. Jacoby mentioned that this number is very little low bearing in mind the number of roads that were under the ban. He stated that “there’s a large appreciation on our side that people have worked so well with helping us get this done.” He added that “we’re incredibly grateful because we get the work done and then things go back to normal.” The ban was implemented on all priority one and two snow routes.
So far the city has been issued a total of 348 tickets up till 10 p.m. MT on Sunday. Crews are still laying down a “pickle” substance which is a gravel mixture with only a small amount of salt. Jacoby clarified that “If you’re coming up behind plows while you’re driving to stay back 10 metres.” He suggested that “give them their space you don’t want gravel chips flying up and hitting your car before they’ve had a chance to settle.”
