A fire struck in an apartment building of Montreal resulted in two people being dead and two more being severely injured overnight. The local police car patrolling the area identified flames rising from the third floor of the apartment building on Ontario St. near Joliette St.

Police quickly attempted to rush into the building but were enforced to give up the effort due to the large and heavy black smoke coming out from the first floor. Meanwhile the fire alarm became active at five-alarm blaze, fetching 100 firefighters to the building in emergency condition past midnight. Finally the army of firefighters extinguished the flames in almost an hour or so.

During the fire extinguishing efforts, the firefighters managed to rescue two severely injured people from the upper floors. One of the injured persons rescued was identified as an almost fifty-year-old man who suffered from serious burns to the upper half of his body, while the other was a 34-year-old woman, who was hurried to the nearby hospital for treatment of inhaling smoke. After the fire was put down, the firefighters ultimately found two more bodies of people who died from the incident but were unidentifiable due to the harsh burns.

The Montreal police department’s arson squad is now investigating the event of fire. The investigators were seen taking statements from witnesses during the night, as they hoped to speak with more people throughout the day. Most of the damage to the building is on the third floor.
