Documents revealed by a media organizations allege that that Alberta Premier Alison Redford might have been involved in a conflict of interest case, when she made the decision of awarding a government contract to a law consortium which previously hired her ex-husband, lawyer Robert Hawkes.

The report was released on Wednesday morning, asserting that the documents illustrate that during Redford’s time as the justice minister, she purposefully chose the firm which employed her ex-husband to award a government tobacco-litigation contract, which had the probable chances of being worth tens of millions of dollars. Redford was still very close to Hawkes even after their divorce, and he even operating her transition team when she became premier in October 2011.

The opposition members are already crying foul over the report on Wednesday morning. Rob Anderson posted on twitter: “If this was any other province our Premier would likely have to resign over something this corrupt.” This discovery of documents is made amidst the pressure by the Wildrose on Redford to answer more questions during question period, in a campaign which included a Wild-West-style wanted poster the party released Tuesday.

Wildrose leader, Danielle Smith, was speaking to the media, when she said that “We believe if you truly want to have transparency and openness, the premier should be prepared to stand and answer questions on policy and accountability of her government.” “She’s clearly not prepared to do that and we are hoping to press her to make a commitment to this legislature that she will be here.”
