The authorities made an announcement on Thursday declaring that a resident of Vancouver, who is accused of “eco terrorism” in the United States, has surrendered herself to the FBI at the international border in Blaine, Wash. 39-years-old Rebecca Jeanette Rubin was running from the law from almost six years after she was charged with putting a ski resort in Vail, Colorado on fire in 2001.

The authorities allege that Rubin is an integral member of a group of radical environmentalists who led the fire which has caused more than $26 million in damage. According to the investigators, the group has been involved in 20 different arsons in five different Western states from 1996 to 2001. Police record shows that the self-proclaimed group calls itself the Earth Liberation Front and the Animal Liberation Front, and has used force, violence, sabotage, mass destruction, intimidation and coercion to influence government, businesses and the public.

Rubin has been indicted with eight counts of arson in Colorado, including charges of conspiracy, arson and using a destructive device in California along with two counts of arson in Oregon. Authorities confirm that after a court appearance in Seattle, Rubin is going to be handed over to the authorities in Oregon to face trial. Previously in 2007, 10 other defendants of the case were given prison sentences ranging from 37 to 156 months after they pleaded guilty to conspiracy and multiple counts of arson. The U.S. authorities claim that two other suspects, Joseph Mahmud Dibee and Josephine Sunshine Overaker are still at run.
