The provincial police of Ontario have resumed their ongoing search mission on Monday to find the body of recently deceased Owen Sound woman, who is assumed dead after a dreadful car crash that took place in Peterborough. The car was grounded into the ice and sunk in the lake of northeast of Peterborough. According to the Police reports, the car was occupied by a 30-year-old woman, her 29-year-old brother and an 18-year-old man, all of whom were residing at a nearby cottage property near Apsley.
Investigation discloses that the group took a sport utility vehicle onto the ice at Eel’s Lake on late Sunday night and, evidence shows, that the vehicle was driven in circles unnecessarily until the ice underneath broke and the vehicle began to sink in. The other two men, except the women, succeeded to escape though the women failed and sunk along with the vehicle almost around 10 metres into the water. Police reached the crime scene sometime later, around midnight, but could not commence a rescue attempt due the extremely dangerous conditions, so the search of the woman was postponed until the arrival of the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit.
The driver of the vehicle is indicted with several charges, included impaired driving causing death, driving a motor vehicle with a blood alcohol level exceeding the legal limit causing death and dangerous driving causing death. He has been arrested and remains in police custody, while awaiting his appearance before Peterborough court on Monday for a bail hearing. The identities of the suspect and the victim are being kept a secret.
