Luka Rocco Magnotta, charged with slaughtering and dismemberment of a Chinese engineering student, will resume proceedings of his court case today. Both lawyers for crown and defense will be presenting their case at  a Montreal courtroom this afternoon to iron out the details of Magnotta’s preliminary hearing. His preliminary hearing is planned to begin from March 11.

Magnotta is indicted with multiple charges, including the first-degree murder of Concordia University student, Jun Lin, last May. Among other charges, he is indicted with committing an indignity to a body; publishing obscene material; criminally harassing Prime Minister Stephen Harper and other members of Parliament; and mailing obscene and indecent material. 30-year-old Magnotta, who belongs to Ontario, has pleaded not guilty, while choosing to be trialed by judge and jury. Magnotta was not expected to show up himself in courtroom last June, but surprisingly enough he did, which now makes it completely unpredictable whether he will be present today or not. His last appearance made a circus-like atmosphere at the Montreal courthouse.

Magnotta was the prime target of an international manhunt, after recovering different parts of Lin’s body from all over the country. He is suspected of mailing those body parts to different places, including the Ottawa offices of the Conservative Party of Canada, the Liberal Party of Canada and two Vancouver schools.
