The Chief of The Assembly of First Nations, Shawn Atleo, has apparently postponed an important press conference that was scheduled to present the agenda and “clear expectations” of the upcoming meeting with Prime Minister Stephen Harper on Friday. This decision was made immediately after the news of Attawapiskat Chief, Theresa Spence, deciding not to attend the meeting, since Gov. Gen. David Johnston was not attending, was made public.
The AFN National Chief was scheduled to lay down the group’s expectations before the meeting commenced with PM Harper and Aboriginal Affairs Minister John Duncan. The press conference has now been delayed to take place on Thursday afternoon. During the update, Atleo alleged that “First Nation planning discussions and dialogue continue today,” while highlighting that “it is essential that this important dialogue continues, and we will set out objectives for Friday’s meeting at a press conference Thursday.”
Previously, the spokesman of Chief Spence, Danny Metatawabin, confirmed on Wednesday that she will be attending the meeting regardless of Johnston’s absence. But an update of that news was publicized today, declaring that she will not be attending and has already addressed a letter to Buckingham Palace, requesting Queen Elizabeth to order Johnston to attend the meeting. Johnston’s office has claimed that he will not be attending “because it consists of a working meeting with government on public policy issues.” When this decision was further inquired, the spokesperson for Johnston alleged that she cannot say anything now, “but we will do so once we have more to share.”
This intimcomment_IDating behavior of Chief Spence towards the PM, GG and now the media, is starting to look similar to the way it appears she has been managing the financial affairs of Attawapiskat. She is beginning to be more part of the problem rather than the solution. Her gotcha strike, could well become, you’re caught!
