Toronto Centre MPP Glen Murray might be soon announcing to quit the race to succeed Premier Dalton McGuinty’s position, our unconfirmed sources reveal that there is a good probability that Murray will instead support front-runner Kathleen Wynne.

Comparing to other contenders, Murray is relatively least experience and rather a newcomer to provincial politics, even though he is a former mayor of Winnipeg. Murray is likely going to make an official announcement of ending his bid for Ontario Liberal leadership on Thursday morning. During the last all-candidates’ debate on Wednesday, Murray hinted that his campaign is diminishing, admitting that “I don’t have a lot of money . . . I’ve tapped out every friend I have.” Murray was unavailable to elaborate its meaning on Thursday, while the Wynne’s office refused to converse on the matter until later this morning. In case this news turns out to be true, it will be extremely beneficial to the Don Valley West MPP’s campaign, giving it utmost support over other candidates.

Delegate selection meetings will take place across Ontario this weekend as around 2,300 Liberal delegates, which include 1,712 picked this weekend in 107 ridings, gather to select replacement for McGuinty at a Maple Leaf Gardens convention Jan. 25-27. Murray’s actions will be damaging the campaign of front-runner, former Windsor West MPP Sandra Pupatello. Other candidates competing in the race are MPPs Eric Hoskins (St. Paul’s), Charles Sousa (Mississauga South), Harinder Takhar (Mississauga Erindale), and former Parkdale-High Park MP and MPP Gerard Kennedy.
