Former Premier of Quebec, Jean Charest, has landed a new private job at a Montreal law firm. The news was made public by the firm McCarthy Tétrault, announcing on Thursday that Charest has joined as a partner, in which capacity he will contribute from Montreal. The statement claims that the firm will benefit incalculably from the expertise acquired by the firm through Charest, premier from 2003 to 2012, as he brings along his in-depth knowledge and experience with public policy, corporate Canada and international affairs.

McCarthy Tétrault currently employs another former premier, Daniel Johnson, while the senior chairperson of the firm is none other than former Quebec Liberal Party president, Marc-André Blanchard. Charest has not appeared in public much since the election, while he declines to comment on the current appointment also. Charest is much anticipated to make an appearance on Thursday evening in Toronto, where he is going to deliver a speech to the conservative Albany Club. In the firm’s official statement, Charest, claims that “It is with great enthusiasm that I join the firm and team of McCarthy Tétrault, the first Canadian law firm to establish a national presence and whose history is intimately linked to the development of Quebec and Canada.”

Charest is a law student of Université de Sherbrooke, who was admitted to the bar in 1981 though he did not practiced for long. Charest was initially elected to the House of Commons in 1984, along with Brian Mulroney.
