The president of the University Dalhousie has announced to continue the suspension of university’s women’s hockey team for the second year. The university team members held a meeting with Dr. Tom Traves on Monday to justify why the suspensions of all five but five rookies for only hazing allegations was an extreme punishment. But later on Wednesday it was officially announced by the university, that the suspensions will continue.

A second-year student of the university, Sara Daley, called the announcement to be “exactly right,” claiming that “It was against the rules. They broke the rules, they got punished for it. I thought it was handled really well.” The school previously investigated hazing allegations from a team house party in September. The university found out that the team did heavy drinking and intimidation during the party, against which it has zero-tolerance hazing policy.

Taking opinion of random on-campus students on Wednesday, they had extremely mixed views of the president’s decision. A third-year University of King’s College student, Kenzie Morrison, alleged that “I don’t think it should be considered hazing. It’s kind of fun, it’s in the spirit of the team.” She added that “to weigh so heavily on an outside activity that doesn’t necessarily involve the whole team, to detriment the entire team … is a little extreme.” While on the other hand, a second-year student at Dalhousie, Kenisse Trotman, said stated that “I feel like sports teams think of it like no big deal, but then when it gets serious they all feel bad.”
