CNA and Liquor Corporation Highlighted in Auditor General’s Annual Audit

This morning, the Auditor General Terry Paddon submitted his Report on Reviews of Departments and Crown Agencies for 2012, along with his report on the Audit of the Consolidated Summary Financial Statements of the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador for the Year Ended March 31, 2012, to the Speaker of the House of Assembly. Paddon highlighted major issues of various government departments in the annual report, including the College of the North Atlantic, the Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation.

Paddon alleged the Newfoundland and Labrador Liquor Corporation is not conducting sufficient inspection of bars and is biased in other licensing tasks as well, he mentioned that the corporation does not even has a solid plan for correcting the flawed system. Secondly, he raised issues with the hiring policies of CNA, claiming to have found several occasions when qualified candidates were not considered while the college hired current employees. Along with other issues, Paddon also suspected that the school is not conducting satisfactory data-logging of records when it comes to hiring. The Department of Municipal Affairs was also mentioned in the annual report, stating issues with its budgets not being filed to the provincial government.

In addition to that, the auditor general’s office highlighted issues of the Western Health Authority too, along with Newfoundland and Labrador Centre for Health Information, saying that it has improper human resources practices. Overall, the 780-pages and 13-chapters long report investigates every aspect of each department and agencies in complete detail.
