Even though Alberta’s Premiere Alison Redford is currently on a visit of another province, she took time to respond to the highly accredited political rumors being spread around at home. Premier Redford is currently in Ontario partly for congratulating the province’s incoming premier, Kathleen Wynne, who recently won the leadership of provincial Liberal Party on last Friday.

Shortly before the meeting with Wynne, Redford published a public tweet addressing the rumors about the upcoming provincial budget, focusing on how the province was anticipated to cover a multi-billion dollar deficit. The tweet posted on Tuesday evening, clarified that “stories and opposition spin about a sales tax are simply false. I’ve been clear – no sales tax. Period.” Later on Wednesday, Redford highlighted the issue again, Redford repeating her stance, as she stated that “I’m telling you, we’re not going to do it.” She added with determination that “we’re not going to do it.”

At another occasion when Redford was addressing an audience at the Canadian Club Luncheon in Toronto, she repeated a cautious warning about which Albertans have already been alerted before. Redford highlighted that Alberta will have to bear the difference in prices of Alberta bitumen and American oil. She explained that “right now, Alberta oil is fetching about $30 per barrel less than similar heavy oil from Mexico or Texas, and about $50 less than middle eastern oil.” Explaining to the Toronto audience, Redford explained that the national consequences of this price gap will cost Canada almost around $27 billion.
