A recent report has confirmed that the man victimized by a gunshot at Toronto Community Housing seniors’ home on Thursday night has been verified as the brother of a man who previously died in a hospital after last summer’s Eaton Centre shooting. The claim was officially endorsed by Det. Sgt., Terry Browne, who alleged that 21-year-old Nisan Nirmalendran was killed on Thursday night around 11 p.m. at Winchester Square, at 55 Bleecker St., and that he is the brother of 22 Nixon Nirmalendran who previously died in a hospital, after ailing for nine days after being shot in the downtown shopping mall food court in June, 2012. Browne denied any possible link between the two separate and sad events.

The investigators have so far failed to determine whether the shooting occurred inside Winchester Square, or just outside. However, it was reported by nearby residents that they heard gunshots soon after 11 p.m. and saw shattered glass was left in the lobby on Friday afternoon. A 66-year-old resident alleged that “it sounded like a cannon.” Whereas another resident who requested to keep his last name a secret, Peter, reported that he heard seven shots while he was trying to read in his 14th floor apartment.

An early report of the police and EMS confirmed that the victim had died due to multiple gunshot wounds, including one to his chest. He was pronounced dead at St. Michael’s Hospital. Const. Tony Vella said no suspect information was immediately available.
