As the campaign for the provincial elections enters its last full week on Sunday, Premier Christy Clark has hyped up her efforts as she spent part of the morning on her knees with six-year-olds while chalking up the sidewalks of an East Vancouver neighborhood. She cautioned that the NDP has planned drastic cuts to induce on the education grants for children that would add “uncertainty” for B.C. families.
Clark cautioned that the NDP intends to nullify the Liberal government’s plan to provide a one-time $1,200 Registered Education Savings Plan grant, i.e. funding currently assured by government to families with kids born after 2007. Clark alleged that parents are the ones who know better regarding what and how to spend the grants received on their childrens’ post-secondary education needs, while at the same time accusing that the NDP leader, Adrian Dix, is of the opinion that the government knows better instead.
Clark’s point of view was approved and highlighted by the Liberal supporters, Otto and Karin Schaffer, who hosted Clark at their home for a campaign event on Sunday morning. Speaking in a motherly tone, Clark alleged that the couple’s four-year-old daughter Stella, who gifted a rainbow drawing to the premier and then hid her face against her parents’ legs, requesting a juice box. Clark stated that “we’re visiting the Schaffers because Stella’s education is at stake.” She added enthusiastically that “the NDP believe that they can make better decisions with your money, with your children’s money, than you can.”
