An upset family in Edmonton is now planning a funeral of the man, who they described as a commendably adventurous, John Scott, passed away on Saturday evening in a failed skydiving jump. Scott was a sufficiently experienced skydiving instructor at Skydive Eden North, i.e. a parachuting facility northwest of Edmonton.
On a routine Saturday evening, which was the first day of the 2013 season for Eden North, the 49-year-old instructor ended his day with an attempt of performing a solo jump into calm, blue skies. Even though Scott’s parachute was deployed standardly and he then began the usual series of maneuvers, somehow something went wrong at the landing. The president of Skydive Eden North and Scott’s close friend, Lyal Waddell, informed reporters that everything seemed to be going normal during the jump right until the landing. He explained that “the experienced guys who saw it said everything looked like Johnny. He took the turn and he was coming in real sweet and very fast.”
However, he alleged that Scott somehow “missed his flare,” as perhaps he was unable to use his equipment in time for pulling down the back of his chute and slow himself down. Consequently Scott hit the ground “very hard,” and the staff at the facility rushed over to help. Waddell alleged that is still uncertain what lead to the accident as there is no video of the accident. He stated that “you wouldn’t have expected him to miss and who knows what really happened on the bottom end.”
