A cyclist has died after colliding with a pick-up in west Edmonton Friday morning.

At approximately 7:30 a.m. on May 3, 2013, a GMC Sierra pick-up was turning northbound off 107 Avenue when it collided with a 56-year-old male riding a bicycle in the marked crosswalk at 127 Street.

Edmonton Police Service traffic investigator Const. Richard Windover said the force of the impact appeared minimal, however the cyclist allegedly struck his head on the ground after the collision. He was not wearing a helmet.EMS attended the scene and treated the cyclist prior to transporting him to hospital with life- threatening injuries. The man died late Sunday, May 5. The lone occupant of the truck did not sustain any physical injury.

Excessive speed or alcohol are not believed to be factors in the collision. A full investigation is being conducted, including the possibility of sun glare as a contributing factor.

The EPS Major Collision Investigative Unit is leading the investigation.
