Toronto Mayor Rob Ford’s brother, Counc. Doug Ford, has strongly refuted all allegations made in The and Mail’s Saturday article, which accused him of having been involved in illegal drug trade in the 1980s. In an exclusive interview to comment on the allegations, Ford mention that the allegations made against him were “absolutely false.” He assuredly stated that “It’s absolutely false. These people want to come after our character.”

The article published by The Globe and Mail cites 10 anonymous and diverse sources who have confirmed to their reporters of Doug Ford having had sold and held relations with illegal drug trade at the time when Ford was a teenager. During his exclusive interview, Ford confessed of having bought and smoked marijuana as a teen, but completely denied of ever had dealt drugs, adamantly stating “no.” The newspaper has alleged to have conducted an all-encompassing 18-month-long investigation into the Ford family and claims to have found both Doug and Randy Ford involved in selling drugs. The anonymous sources cited by the newspaper also alleged that Doug Ford trafficked in large quantities of hashish during the 1980s.

Furthermore, Ford stated during the interview that he has informed Globe’s editor-in-chief, John Stackhouse, that he thought it was “outrageous what they were doing” and said he was a victim of “gutter, sleazy journalism.” Stackhouse has defended the article, asserting that he believes it was “important to get this on the public record.”
