First time since the disastrous allegations were made against Toronto Mayor Rob Ford of being caught on a video while smoking crack on May 16, Mayor and his executive committee have now arranged to meet on Tuesday, which is also the mayor’s 44th birthday. Among the topics for discussion on the agenda for the meeting are capital budget for the Toronto Public Library, a one-metre passing rule for bicyclists and several other issues.
However, the meeting will evidentially remain eclipsed by the ongoing gigantic scandal that has hit the city hall. Ford unexpectedly and unethically refrained from making any comments regarding the allegations of drug-use for a week. Later after a statement issued by six top members of his executive committee urged him to speak openly on the matter, he finally held a press conference. Meanwhile, Ford ended up firing his chief of staff, Mark Towhey, soon after which his press secretary, George Christopoulos, and deputy press secretary, Isaac Ransom, resigned too.
The resignation of Ford’s press secretaries came on the same day when The Globe and Mail reported, citing “two separate sources,” that police has interviewed one of the mayor’s senior staff as it allegedly connected the unverified video of Ford using drugs with a murder. Speaking on the matter at his weekend radio show, Mayor Ford directly mentioned that such video does not exist. Meanwhile, Mayor’s brother, Coun. Doug Ford, also denied all the reports alleging that his family purchased the alleged video.
