Westside-Kelowna riding By-election are set to commence today, where an overwhelming number of eight noticeable candidates are contesting for a seat in the B.C. legislature, including Premier Christy Clark. Clark has shown immense confidence during her campaign as she seems pretty optimistic to win the riding even though she lost her seat in Vancouver-Point Grey in the general election in May. Since she is the leader of the governing party, Clark will still be able to hold the title of premier regardless of a seat, but she will need one to enter the legislature.

During her campaign, Clark alleged that she is optimistic regarding the poll because central Okanagan region has a long history of electing premiers. She stated that “W.A.C Bennett and Bill Bennett are both examples of premiers who managed to govern the province, to build the province, at the same time they put Kelowna on the map, and that is what I want to do.”

Meanwhile, NDP candidate Carole Gordon alleged that she expects massive voter turnout toady, as she stated that “there has been a lot of media attention attached to this one. People on the west side, people in Kelowna know that there’s an election happening and they are going to get out to vote.” Even though Clark currently resides in Vancouver, she has promised to establish a second residence in the city in case she wins. B.C. Conservative candidate, Sean Upshaw, made a similar promise, alleging that “If I am elected, I will be a member of the Legislative Assembly to represent this area doing what is best for them.”
