The federal government has announced to have sent several gifts, including Canadian children’s books and a blanket, to newborn Prince George, along with a $100,000 charitable donation in his honour. The official announcement was made by the Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s office on Thursday, when it explained that the books, in English and French, are going to be sent along with the hand-made blanket “reflective of our country’s rich and diverse culture.”

It was revealed that the $100,000 gift is intended to be awarded to any Canadian charity that aims to improve “the lives of children,” though any specific beneficiary has not been decided. Publicly, it remains largely unclear as to which charity will receive the donation. Meanwhile, the title of the books addressed by the PMO remains a mystery too, though it was informed that the gifts are being sent personally on behalf of Mr. Harper, his wife Laureen Harper, Governor-General David Johnston and his wife Sharon Johnston.

In the statement made by Mr. Harper, he mentioned that “these gifts symbolize our warm ties to our Royal Family, honouring our close and enduring relationship,” alleging that “once again, I would like offer congratulations and best wishes to the happy couple on the arrival of their first child.” Prince George was born to William and Catherine, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, as their first child on Monday. Whereas, the boy’s name was announced later on Wednesday to be George Alexander Louis, who is deemed as the third in line to the throne.
