According to results of a new poll conducted by the Canadian Medical Association, it is revealed that a vast majority of Canadians are of the opinion that this country shall give urgent attention towards developing a national strategy for seniors’ health care. Additionally, the poll showed that respondents believe such a strategy will be better implemented if we keep seniors in their homes as long as possible.

The results of the poll and an annual report of the association on health issues were released by Ipsos Reid. The poll results implied that every nine out of 10 Canadians are of the opinion that the entire health care system will be significantly improved if seniors were kept at home as long as possible. It was also pointed out that only 37 per cent of Canadians feel confident that their current system has the ability to take care of our aging population. Apart from that, poll also showed that three-quarters of its respondents were concerned about themselves having access to high-quality health care in their retirement years.

A lawyer with the Advocacy Centre for the Elderly, Jane Meadus, alleged that she was not surprised to see the poll results which showed that only few Canadians feel confident about how they will be cared for in their senior years. During an interview, she alleged that “it shows there’s an anxiety about what’s happening now and what’s going to happen in the future about the availability and quality of the health care that we’re expecting for our seniors.”
