In a recently released video, the RCMP have tried to prove a point, skillfully demonstrating exactly why is it necessary to pay attention on the road while driving a motorcycle. The RCMP took possession of a video soon after the incident of a collision between a motorcycle and a black bear, along the Lougheed Hwy. between Agassiz and Hope.

The video clearly shows a man driving a motorcycle, who was videotaping himself with a helmet cam, boasting about acquiring 140 km/hr speed in almost 20 seconds. However, just as the man reaches that speed, a passing train scares a black bear out onto the road, right in front of the driver’s path. RCMP admitted that the driver did all he could possibly do to avoid the bear, but the two collided anyway. Consequently, the driver was shifted to a nearby hospital while the bear walked away. The RCMP’s Fraser Valley Traffic Services responded to the motorcycle accident on June, 30 this year.

Upon investigating the collision, officers soon discovered the presence of video camera mounted on the driver helmet. Speaking about the incident caught on camera, Corporal Robert McDonald, of E Division Traffic Services, stated that “we’ve spoken in the past about motorcycle stunts and how dangerous they are; we always say you never know what could happen at high speeds.” He elucidated that “this is a perfect example. The video clearly shows nobody else on the road, and a nice clear dry day. Who would expect a bear to run across the road?”
