It has been recently confirmed by the RCMP that the suspect being pursued in the death of six-year-old Lee Bonneau on a Saskatchewan reserve is under the age of 12. Bonneau recently passed away in a hospital due to serious head injuries, after he was found estranged in a wooded area on the Kahkewistahaw First Nation on Aug. 21. Authorities have reported that he went missing two hours before he was found, and was last seen playing outside a community centre with some dogs.

An autopsy report has confirmed that Bonneau sustained injuries consistent with an assault, which lead the RCMP to rule the death a homicide. However, the RCMP confirmed vie an email to several media sources on Sunday that the suspect being pursued in the case is under the age of 12. It was disclosed that the suspect appears to be too young to face charges as law indicates that any child under the age of 12 cannot be charged with homicide. Authorities are anticipated to reveal limited details into the investigation, after which the RCMP and the chief of Kahkewistahaw First Nation are going to host an elaborative joint news conference scheduled on Tuesday to discuss Bonneau’s death.

The community, located approximately 150 kilometres east of Regina, still reels over the death of the young boy. Until now, locals have filed a petition that urges the presence of peacekeepers and a strict curfew to be circulated throughout the reserve.
