A 34-year-old man was convicted of Second Degree Murder following a nine week trial in connection with the 2011 homicide of a 27-year-old Toronto man.

On Friday, September 6, 2013, Justice J.R. McIsaac of the Superior Court of Justice sentenced Mohand Mohammed to life in prison with no chance of parole for 16 years. He will not be eligible for parole until September 2029.

On Friday, January 21, 2011, at 11:15 p.m., York Regional Police responded to a 9-1-1 call regarding a shooting at the Paradise Banquet Hall located at 7601 Jane Street in the City of Vaughan. Officers arrived on scene and located a man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The victim was identified as Arash Elijah Bakhtaryani, 27, of Toronto.
