In a press conference held by Toronto Police on Friday, it has announced that an elaborative investigation into guns, drugs and gangs in Scarborough has resulted in a significant dip in activities of organized crime in the city. Overall, Police announced to have laid 417 charges against numerous suspects, out of which, 41 were arrested as part of Project Brazen. During the press conference, Staff Insp. Greg McLane unveiled that Project Brazen identified 25 members of the notorious Galloway Boys gang and carried out a crackdown against them.

The charges laid against these suspects range from trafficking to attempted murder. Mr. McLane further revealed that the operation conducted on Thursday resulted in seizure of 1,000 grams of cocaine and $10,000 in busts in southeast Scarborough, London and Waterloo. He stated that the arrests have a “significant impact” on gang activity but haven’t eliminated it. It was added that the investigation coincided with the police probe of shootings at a barbecue on Danzig St. in Scarborough in June 2012.

The latest press conference held by McLane and Deputy Chief, Mark Saunders, has now become the third major press conference hosted by the homicide squad in the last week alone. Police highlighted at the end of the conference that eight gang members are still at large and should turn themselves in, while flashing their pictures in front of cameras. In the press conference held last Friday, McLane announced eight arrests in four murders and two attempted murders, while on Monday detectives detailed the arrest of one man in the murders of two Eritrean women.
