Sources close to Senator Mike Duffy have revealed that he is anticipated to show up for today’s Senate debate on the motion that asks to suspend him without pay. Regardless of his sick leaves approved by the Senate, Duffy is expected to attend Tuesday’s session in order to present his side of the story before the Senate debates his future.
The senate will also be debating on possible suspensions of Duffy’s two colleagues who are also under scrutiny for various misspending of tax dollars, namely Pamela Wallin and Patrick Brazeau. Consequently, there is a slight possibility of Brazeau showing up as well, ignoring his own health problems, especially in frustration that he was blocked from addressing his housing claims in the past. On the other hand, a source close to Wallin is also sending same signals, alleging that she too is considering being present at the Senate on Tuesday afternoon.
Senator Duffy’s lawyer spurred a long list of serious allegations against the Prime Minister’s Office on Monday, alleging that his client’s living expenses were “cleared from Day 1” by then Senate government leader Marjory LeBreton’s office. He explained that after they became controversial, Duffy was enforced to accept a deal from the PMO or face removal from his seat. Lawyer Donald Bayne claims that he has email conversations between Duffy and LeBreton’s office, as well as Prime Minister Stephen Harper’s former chief of staff Nigel Wright, that can prove that Duffy did not knowingly break Senate rules.
