Toronto city councillors are now openly searching for different ways to circumvent Mayor Rob Ford in light of his recent startling confession of having had smoked crack cocaine. Even though Mayor Ford has unambiguously insisted that he will stay on as mayor, numerous councillors that were previously staunch allies of the mayor claim now to have lost confidence in his ability to run Canada’s largest city.

Speaking to the media at city hall on Wednesday, Coun. Janet Davis shared that “the question now is what do we do,” adding that “he has stubbornly refused to listen to everyone across the city to step down. He is still in the role of mayor and we have to look at how we deal with this situation.” Davis unveiled that “he’s spun for the last six months that he’s a victim of conspiracy. I think now the mayor is a victim of his own conspiracy and he has lost the legitimacy of the mayor’s office. He has discredited himself, his office and our city.” He alleged that “for a person who says he respects the taxpayers of this city, I think he’s disrespecting the people of Toronto.”

Even though Ford has already promised Torontonians on Tuesday that he “has nothing left to hide” anymore, many councillors still think more is follow after Ford’s drug confession. Coun. Denzil Minnan-Wong alleged that “I remain concerned that’s there more information that’s going to come out,” and “I’m troubled by that, that it will create further controversy and hurt the even further.”
