In the latest audit report recently released on Tuesday, the federal environment watchdog has openly warned relevant authorities to keep a trace of key species and critical habitat and avoid its disappearance in Canada and the health of national parks being jeopardized because the federal government is having trouble respecting its environmental laws. The report included a perfectly made picture of Canada’s deteriorating biodiversity, threatening economic damage along with surviving a range of species such as birds and fish — and even large mammals such as belugas.

The interim commissioner of the environment and sustainable development, Neil Maxwell, mentioned in the report that “it is time to look for new approaches,” and “without concerted and committed efforts, more key species and critical spaces will be lost.” Government departments has largely cooperated with Maxwell’s recommendations and findings and seemed taking steps to address the concerns that looked at a range of laws and policies related to Canada’s international commitments under the United Nations Convention on Biological Diversity.

Canadians out of the country whose representatives are to sign and ratify this treaty, under the leadership of former Progressive Conservative prime minister Brian Mulroney, committing, along with the rest of the world, to meet targets to protect natural ecosystems and endangered species. Maxwell’s audit also said Canada was “losing ground” from a “long-standing tradition of leadership in conservation” by failing to meet requirements of several environmental laws, including legislation to protect migratory birds, species at risk, national wildlife areas and parks.
