Embattled Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has mentioned quite adamantly that he does not intends to step down from his position, or take a leave of absence, despite a long list of damning allegations and several public confessions and embarrassment faced by him. City council is now working out on how to pursue the matter since he did not change his mind after councillors made dramatic pleas on Wednesday for him to seek treatment for alleged substance abuse.

Thursday will be an even more challenging day for the Mayor at City Hall, as the court has announced to release more police documents deemed to hold additional disturbing details about the mayor’s erratic behaviour.  However, Mayor Ford seems to have barely been moved by these developments, he has persistently refused to step aside, and even after admitting to have had smoked crack cocaine about a year ago possibly while drunk. During the council meeting on Wednesday, he stated that “I can’t change the past,” and so “all I can do is move on and that’s what I’m doing.”

However, Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly says that apologies are not enough, and he claims that Ford has lost the “moral authority” to lead. In a statement, Kelly alleged that “it’s not enough because it doesn’t address the major issues in his life and the life of this council,” and added that “he must take a leave of absence in order to rehabilitate himself.”  Ford has also repeatedly denied having a drug or alcohol problem.
