Embattled Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has openly challenged city councillors to call for early election rather than attempting to shred his authority and budget. During a telephonic interview at a radio show on Monday morning, Ford boldly stated that “if they want me out they should just call a snap election,” asserting that “I’m willing to go to the polls right now.”

Mayor Ford accused the council of coordinating a coup d’etat and “trampling on democracy,” and alleged that it has left him with no choice but to go to court. He stated that “it’s completely illegal what they’re doing,” while elucidating that “what else am I supposed to do . . . sit here and let these guys pound me for saving money? That’s all it comes down to and trying to embarrass me and have the police chief come out there and just try to embarrass me.” Mayor Ford raised a deliberate question, and asked that “if I was doing all this illegal stuff that they’re alleging they would have charged me.”

Ford revealed that he was aware that he was under surveillance, adding that he knows that material present in court documents is irrelevant. He straightforwardly blamed former “disgruntled employees” for “making outright lies about me doing coke and having escorts, which I clarified pretty quickly.” Mayor echoed that he is not a drug addict. He pointed out that former court battles have already cost him almost $500,000 and he’s warning it’s going to cost taxpayers “a fortune” to defend council’s actions.
