Senior cabinet minister, Jason Kenney, outspokenly gave intense remarks against embattled Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, asserting that it’s time for him to give up his position and spare the city more embarrassment. The minister for employment and social development, Mr. Kenney, didn’t sugarcoat his words on Tuesday upon inquiry about his views on Ford-related drama in Toronto. He stated that “I think Mr. Ford has brought dishonour to public office and the office of mayor and his city.”

In a strongly worded statement, Mr. Kenney alleged that “I wished he had taken a leave of absence some time ago to go and deal with his personal problems. But not having done that, I personally think he should step aside and stop dragging the city of Toronto through this terrible embarrassment.” He added that “I think there is a dignity in public service and elected office and he is doing, regrettably, dishonour to that high office,” highlighting that he supported Ford’s rival Rocco Rossi in the last mayoralty race.

Making even sharper remarks in French, Kenney continued that “the situation has deteriorated to a point where I think he should resign.” However, Kenney did admit that it is up to Toronto council to “sort out his mess.” Mr. Kenney’s remarks were way more severe than the previous stance offered by the office of Prime Minister Stephen Harper on Monday. The Prime Minister’s Office stated that these allegations are “troubling” and “our government does not condone illegal drug use, especially by elected officials while in office.”
