More than third of abortion clinics in Texas were banned from providing abortion services to women. An extremely divided supreme court narrowed down to the decision of allowing Texas to keep its abortion restrictions. The vote of the justices had a result of 5-4 which lead the abortion clinics to close down their doors. Physicians who provide such services are given admitting privileges at any hospital present within thirty miles of their clinics.

The court ignored the appeals of giving women the right to lead their lives or of planned parenthood. Kyleen Wright, who is a president of the Texas of Life Coalition, finds this a victory for women’s health in Texas. ‘Women are entitled to competent doctors,’ said Wright.

The case is pending an appeal and remains open on 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans. The law will remain in effect until the Circuit Court makes a decision. The court is expected to hear oral arguments in January as Planned Parenthood keeps challenging the decision. Texas is one of the nations most populated states and has a number of eighty thousand abortions done every year. Rick Perry, the republican governor approved the action taken by the supreme court. ‘This is good news both for the unborn and for the women of Texas, who are now better protected from shoddy abortion providers operating in dangerous conditions. As always, Texas will continue doing everything we can to protect the culture of life in our state,’ said Rick Perry.
