Results of a recently conducted poll illustrate that despite the numerous allegations against Toronto Mayor Rob Ford, along with his confession of having had smoked crack cocaine and drinking to excess, his popularity has barely been affected as 42 per cent of Toronto residents said they still approve of the job he’s doing, and 33 per cent still plan on voting for him.

The Forum Research poll published in the Friday’s issue of Toronto Sun has come amid several reports alleging that a “domestic assault” police call was originated from Mr. Ford’s home this past summer, due to which he was deliberately kept away from Prime Minister Stephen Harper during a Conservative party event two days later because of concerns Mr. Ford may have been intoxicated. The latest 42 per cent approval rating is only a slight decrease from a similar Forum poll conducted on Nov. 6, when his approval rating was at 44 per cent. The report pointed out that residents that were supporting the mayor were aware of at least some of the allegations he’s currently facing, including drug and alcohol abuse, sexual harassment, and misuse of public funds.

The sample of 1,049 Torontonians was polled by Forum Research on Wednesday, out of which 69 per cent said believed that the mayor has a substance abuse problem. Regardless of having known that, 33 per cent Torontonians said they would still vote for him in 2014. Upon inquiry about if Mr. Ford attended rehab, only one per cent more of those polled (34 per cent) said they would vote for him then.
