Meteorologist have confirmed that close to the end of the year 2013, Winnipeggers lived through the coldest December day in the city’s history since more than 80 years, since the temperatures dived down to -37.9 C earlier in the day. A meteorologist with Environment Canada, Dale Marciski, alleged that it hasn’t been this cold in Winnipeg in December since 1933.
Despite there being a colder New Year’s Eve seen by Winnipeg when the temperature dropped down to -38.3 C on Dec. 31, 1884, this year’s temperature was no better than that since majority Winnipeggers suffered the temperature, that in light of wind chill factor, felt like -48 C. The torturous weather summed up an equally unbearable month in terms of weather, since the average temperature of the city for the month settled to be -20.9 C. This made it the second-coldest December Winnipeggers have seen in 120 years, and sixth-coldest overall.
Due to innumerable flights being postponed due to the unusual the weather, CAA Manitoba revealed to have received a record number of service calls in a month. A spokesperson of the agency, Liz Peters, alleged on Tuesday that the auto club expected to reach 20,300 before the calendar turned to 2014. Despite this being distressful enough, Marciski alleged that the forecast for January doesn’t look very encouraging either. He stated that “I know this isn’t what people want to hear, but other than for a brief warmup on Friday, there’s no break in the cold until at least the middle of next week.”
