The race to depose Rob Anders from yet another Tory nomination has officially begun. In an announcement made on Thursday, Former Alberta Finance Minister Ron Liepert declared that he has launched the campaign to secure a Conservative nomination in the riding of Calgary Signal Hill, i.e. a de facto attempt to push out the controversial Mr. Anders. Former Reform MP, Mr. Anders, previously also faced challenges on his nomination by Alberta’s current premier, Alison Redford.

However, 64-year-old Mr. Liepert now claims that it’s worth another try. He mentioned while making the announcement on Thursday that “there have just been a number of people who’ve had enough, they’re fed up.” Mr. Liepert was making the announcement to launch his official website, NominateLiepert.com. He added that “it’s not a matter of me taking on Rob Anders, but it’s a matter of Rob Anders choosing to run in an area where we know he’s unpopular.” The announcement has come only a week after a group launched a website under the slogan ‘It’s Time to Do Better,’ rallying support for a nomination race in the riding. Speaking about which, Mr. Liepert stated that “the response to that has just been quite unbelievable, actually.”

On the other hand, Mr. Anders did not take the campaign well and accused the group of not being true conservatives, labelling them as “Red Tories” and asserting that they’ll rely on Liberal and NDP supporters to buy Tory memberships in order to defeat him.
