According to a recent poll conducted by the Calgary Herald, the Progressive Conservative government is left with support of only a quarter of decided Albertans whereas the approval of Premier Alison Redford has “dropped off a cliff.” The Leger survey, carried out between Feb. 24 and 27, found that the Wildrose Party was the most favorite of the decided voters as it gathered 38 per cent support compared to the Tories’ 25 per cent. Meanwhile, the Liberals received backing of 16 per cent of voters and the NDP had 15 per cent, and Alberta Party three per cent.

Statistically, the poll showed there was a significant change of heart among the Alberta’s voters since last September, since at that time the Wildrose and PCs were running neck-and-neck at 34 and 33 per cent apiece. Whereas the situation was even worse for the Albertans in last April, when the Tories scored only 29 per cent following a highly unpopular strict budget and a series of controversies.

However, the recent poll has shown that Redford is only left with 20 per cent approval among Albertans, whereas a vast majority of 64 per cent disapprove of her performance as leader in the past year. Vice-president at Leger, Ian Large, stated that this is an “extraordinary” fall from the premier’s 32 per cent approval rating last September, alleging that “it’s just dropped off a cliff,” and “I think it’s the lowest we’ve ever seen here.”
