According to the update provided by Peel Region Police on Saturday morning, the officer shot by an undisclosed shooter at the Brampton courthouse, Const. Mike Klarenbeek, is alert and speaking. Klarenbeek was providing security at the courthouse when he was shot on Friday morning by a man who opened fire, but he is believed to be in stable condition at Sunnybrook Hospital as of Saturday morning.

Making the announcement through Twitter on Saturday morning, Peel police posted “Great News! Cst. Klarenbeek is alert and speaking with his family. Your prayers worked and he is doing well! Thank you all.” The shooter was shot and killed by police on site but his name has not been released so far, though police believes he is from Brampton. 53-year-old Klarenbeek is a constable with an experience of more than 30 years on the force, out of which he worked five years at the courthouse. Social media users have expressed extreme sympathy and support for the injured officer as police admitted themselves that there are so many tweets they’re unable to respond to each one, but that they are all appreciated.

On their official Twitter account, Halton Regional Police stated that “our thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and co-workers of the Peel Police officer shot in Brampton.” In addition to that, Staff Sgt. Darla Tannahill tweeted, “we continue to send prayers & support to PC Mike Klarenbeek and our [Peel Police] colleagues while they rally around him and his family.”
