The pit bull that bit a 14-month-old girl’s face in a vicious attack on Sunday is being euthanized. The little girl received serious injuries after the dog grabbed her while she attempted to pat it in her Centrepointe-area home. Thereafter, the girl was immediately taken to Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario to be treated for serious injuries. The girl’s parents had taken in the pit bull few days ago in an attempt to rehabilitate it since it had reportedly bitten a child before.

According to a press release issued by chief of By-Law and Regulatory Services, Linda Anderson, the original owner of the dog has been very cooperative as she announced that “the original owner of the dog from the very beginning, when contacted advised us that he intended to have the dog euthanized when his veterinarian offices opened on Monday.” It is illegal to own a pit bull in Ontario since 2005, however the city only follows up on the animals if they get calls about them. Consequently, Anderson confirmed that the city had no record of this dog.

Anderson alleged that it is not decided yet whether the owner or the child’s parents will face any fines. She stated that “our focus today is to have the dog euthanized and that’s what we’re focusing on” and later on “tomorrow we will have discussions about potential charges, but today we want to focus on ensuring that the dog is euthanized. Anderson added that By-Law gets around 300 reports of dog bites every year.
