Manitoba’s health minister vowed to take action against astonishing incidents of two critical Winnipeggers deaths, who passed away on their way to home after being discharged from hospital and sent through taxi. The minister promised to take action and even consider introducing new rules that ensure that all discharged patients reach home safely.
According to a statement issued by The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority (WRHA) on Friday, it admitted to be investigating the second death involving a man who was discharged from Grace Hospital in late December. 78-year-old David Silver passed away on his front porch after being sent home from Grace Hospital in a taxi on Dec. 31. According to WRHA, both deaths are eligible to launch critical incident investigations.
In addition to that, the officials claim that Silver was brought to the hospital in an ambulance on Dec. 30 because he was suffering from stomach pain, nausea and a headache. According to his family, doctors believed that he had gallstones and kidney stones, but alleged that the problem wasn’t serious enough to admit him to the hospital. Thereafter, Silver was sent home in his pyjamas and slippers via a cab at around 1 a.m. on Dec. 31. Family members complain that the temperature at the time was –37 C without the wind chill. Silver passed away at his doorstep and was not found until almost 14 hours later, when his caregiver arrived to find him frozen in the snow.
