Federal Liberal leader, Justin Trudeau, has remarked that he “understands” his MP’s frustrations, after MP John McKay was secretly recorded to have said that Trudeau had a “bozo eruption” in declaring that anti-abortion candidates cannot run for the party.

Giving his remarks upon arrival at Parliament Hill on Tuesday morning, Trudeau stated that “John McKay is a good man and a good friend and a great environment critic and he feels passionately about this issue.” Only a day after McKay’s secretly recorded conversation on Trudeau’s abortion stance was exposed, Trudeau said that “I understand his frustrations.”

Toronto MP who has openly opposed abortion several times, McKay, was allegedly having a private conversation at an event on Sunday when he discussed his concerns with Trudeau. He can be heard in the audio, saying that “I’ve had umpteen conversations with so many people about this. It’s driving me crazy.” McKay stated that “I initially thought it was a bozo eruption; that he didn’t actually think about what he said.” In addition to that, McKay alleged that “but even more disturbing is that his brain trust might have actually thought about this, and if they did … it scares the hell out of me. If you don’t know this is a toxic issue for a population then you have no political sense whatsoever.” Several sources claim that the secret audio recording was made by someone with Conservative leanings.
