CBC’s co-host of The Lang and O’Leary Exchange, Kevin O’Leary, has announced to quit the network and join Bell Media’s CTV and BNN instead. Mr. O’Leary was is set to start at BNN’s newsroom in a move effective immediately. Earlier, Mr. O’Leary left BNN to join CBC in 2009, when he started to co-host The Lang and O’Leary Exchange with Amanda Lang.

Consequently, CBC mentioned in a press release to have recondition the program in light of Mr. O’Leary’s departure, which will now include a new name and format with Ms. Lang now its sole host. CBC sources have not confirmed if Mr. O’Leary will still appear for a farewell show. In a formal written statement, Mr. O’Leary stated that “after working with the CBC for the last eight years, I truly appreciate what a national treasure this institution is.  I’m proud to have been part of its expanding role as a place where ideas that matter to Canadians can be debated from all sides.” He added that “at the CBC, I’ve had the opportunity to work with world-class producers and journalists, particularly Amanda Lang, with whom I enjoyed having so many intriguing and lively discussions over the years.”

Previously in March, Mr. O’Leary announced to quit the Canadian version of Shark Tank, i.e. CBC’s Dragons’ Den, after its eighth season. He explained that “as Dragons’ Den did in Canada, Shark Tank has grown and each year more shows are contemplated. It became impossible to shoot 46 shows and keep my other commitments. At some point, you run out of runway and that’s what happened.”
