Ontario Provincial Police have found the missing two-year-old girl lost in a cornfield north of London, Ont. on Tuesday night. The two-year-old was found alive almost 14 hours later by a property owner living in a home near where the toddler went missing. The toddler was spotted on Wednesday, after which the property owner immediately alerted police at approximately 10:30 a.m.

According to the police, the girl looked in good health at the time but was still shifted to a nearby hospital as a precautionary measure. OPP Const. Kees Wijands informed reporters at the scene on Wednesday that “we were concerned” about the toddler’s health because “a lot of us are parents, grandparents…it all hits close to home.” A group of children were playing, along with the toddler, on a rural property surrounded by cornfields near Centralia, Ont., located approximately 40 kilometres north of London. However, upon returning home around 8 p.m. on Tuesday, the children discovered that the toddler was missing. Police confirmed that the toddler wandered into the nearby cornfield, where the family members were searching with no result.

Upon hearing about the news, police rounded up approximately 60 to 80 emergency workers that helped during the search of cornfield, i.e. estimated by police to cover an area of between 75 and 100 acres. Additionally, the OPP officers set up a perimeter around the area and volunteer firefighters conducted a grid search. An OPP helicopter and a military helicopter from CFB Trenton were also used in the search.
